This week Volvo Cars, the Swedish luxury car company, introduced in India the XC90 Excellence T8 Plug-in Hybrid in Lounge Configuration—long name for a car, but it has a long list of opulent features. |

Volvo Cars has made a multi-million euro investment in Varjo Technologies Oy, whose headset with screens and cameras can be used to allow engineers to test-drive cars to dodge hazards such as virtual moose. Varjo—founded by Nokia Oyj and Microsoft Corp. alumni—has been developing an augmented-reality headset with a significantly higher image resolution than those produced by its rivals, costing $5,995 plus camera add-ons. |

Volvo unveils driverless electric bus in Singapore; to start trial soon

Volvo and a Singapore university unveiled a driverless electric bus Tuesday that will soon undergo tests in the city-state, the latest move towards rolling out autonomous vehicles for public transport. High-tech Singapore has become a testbed for self-driving technology and the world's first driverless taxis went into operation in a limited public trial in the country in 2016. |

Volvo to have India-assembled hybrid SUV by 2019-end

Swedish luxury car maker Volvo Cars India will roll out its first locally-assembled plug-in hybrid XC90 by the end of 2019. This will be an SUV (sports utility vehicle) and will compete with the BMW X6 35i M Sport and the Mercedes-AMG GLE 43 4Matic. Charles Frump, managing director, Volvo Car India, said on Wednesday the plug-in hybrid car will cost around 8% more than the diesel inscription car. |

Volvo’s electric buses to serve as mobile libraries in Gothenburg, Sweden

Some of the world’s first electric mobile libraries will enter into traffic in Gothenburg, Sweden, next summer. When Gothenburg City Library decided to invest in modern mobile libraries the choice was electric buses from Volvo. Gothenburg City Library currently has two mobile libraries operating in and around the city, visiting about 70 mobile library stops and 110 preschools. |

Volvo recalls over 200,000 cars to fix fuel leak issue

Stockholm: Volvo Cars, which is owned by China's Zhejiang Geely Holding Group, is voluntarily recalling about 200,000 cars after it found an engineering issue that could potentially cause fuel leakage in the engine compartment over time. The group said its probe had identified that some vehicles may have small cracks inside one of the fuel lines in the engine compartment, which along with a pressurised fuel system may over time lead to fuel leakage in the engine compartment.

On Friday, Volvo Cars India, the subsidiary of Swedish automaker Volvo Cars, started an initiative towards spreading awareness about clean air in the country. The campaign covers three areas: a school programme, dealership-led initiatives, and developing clean zones. School programme: The company will hold sessions—in chosen schools across the country—with environmentalists on the effects and causes of air pollution. |

Volvo-Eicher JV to set up Rs 4-bn truck manufacturing plant in Bhopal

Eicher Motors, which has a 50:50 joint venture with Volvo for trucks and buses (VECV), Monday announced that the JV plans to set up a new greenfield truck manufacturing plant at an investment of Rs 4 billion in Bhopal. "The Madhya Pradesh government has allotted land for the new plant and work to set up this plant is expected to start soon," Eicher Motors said in a BSE filing. |
