5G auction: Telecom panel to meet on September 19 to finalise spectrum price

The Digital Communications Commission (DCC) is scheduled to meet on September 19 to finalise the pricing and other modalities for the upcoming spectrum auction. As per sources, an internal committee of the DoT has already approved the revised recommendations regarding the auction submitted by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai). The regulator has largely stuck to its recommendation on the reserve price of spectrum, including for the 5G band. |

Telecom regulator Trai on Monday recommended to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting that there is no need for fixing a minimum net worth for registration of multiple-system operators in cable TV service. The Cable Television Network Rules, 1994, prescribe the criteria for grant of registration to an multiple-system operators (MSO), which provides cable TV services to its subscribers. |

In a setback to incumbent mobile operators, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) has rejected the government's demand of a re-look at lowering of the reserve price of spectrum, especially 5G. In its letter to DoT on Monday, Trai said the department has misconstrued this quote -- "Due to competition, concerns have been expressed about the financial health of the sector, its revenue growth and the capability of companies to meet contractual commitments" as Trai recommendation. |

The Digital Communications Commission, the highest decision-making body in the telecom sector, on Thursday asked the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) to review its recommendations on 5G spectrum sale, scheduled to take place in the calendar year to auction 8,644 MHz of airwaves, and make available a higher amount of spectrum, besides approving the rollout of airwaves for 5G trials in 100 days. |

Broadcast regulator TRAI Friday said it is examining possible solutions for achieving TV Set-Top-Box (STB) interoperability, and expects to make headway with industry involvement by the end of this year. The move assumes significance since consumers get tied down to their service providers, as STBs are bound to the operator.
