Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) continued its hold on the Indian passenger vehicles market with its models occupying the first six positions in the top ten best selling list in August. According to data from Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers, the company's entry-level car Alto topped the list, selling 22,237 units in August. |

Maruti Suzuki India, the India arm of Suzuki Motor Corp, will start testing a fleet of 50 prototypes of electric vehicles in India from October, said Suzuki Motor Corp Chairman Osamu Suzuki. “We have decided to launch EVs in India around 2020 in collaboration with Toyota Motor Corporation,” Suzuki said at the opening session of MOVE, the two-day Global Mobility Summit. |

The company had sold 1.52 lakh units in August 2017. The decline in car sales is largely due to the unfortunate floods in Kerala and parts of Karnataka. |

With a multi-year high market share of about 52 per cent in the world's fifth-largest car market, the company's shareholders want more. A few shareholders now want the company to move up the ladder and explore an entry into the luxury car segment. At the AGM held in the capital on Thursday, one of the shareholders pointed out to the management that it was time for Maruti Suzuki to consider competing with the likes of the German luxury trio — Mercedes-Benz, BMW, and Audi. |

MUMBAI: Maruti Suzuki and Mercedes-Benz, the nation’s largest mainstream and luxury carmakers, respectively, have decided to increase prices, citing input cost pressures. Maruti is set to increase prices by about Rs 6,100 per vehicle, while in the case of Mercedes-Benz, the increase will be up to 4%, which essentially means a hike of Rs 1.1-7.7 lakh depending on the models. |
