Sensex trades marginally lower ahead of RBI policy meet Posted on 30th September 2014 |

Mumbai: The 30-share bellwether BSE Sensex was trading marginally down ahead of Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI’s) bi-monthly policy due later on Tuesday. RBI will release its monetary policy at 11am. RBI to maintain repurchase rate at 8% to shield the rupee from potential increases in US borrowing costs and sustain a fight against inflation, all 51 analysts in a Bloomberg survey predict. The government will also announce fiscal deficit data on Tuesday. |

BSE Ltd and Bank of New York Mellon have signed an agreement enabling foreign investors to provide AAA rated sovereign bonds traded outside of India as collateral for trades done on the domestic exchange, the two parties said in a joint statement released late on Friday. The two parties said with the signing of this agreement they "aim to enhance the trading experience for foreign institutional and retail investors and bring Indian practices in line with the best in the world". |

The recent 1,000 point correction in the S&P BSE Sensex from its record high has seen 109 stocks from BSE-500 index hit their respective three-month low level. Reliance Industries, Hindalco Industries, Tata Steel, Larsen and Toubro, BHEL, DLF, Tata Power Company, Reliance Infrastructure, Cairn India and Reliance Capital are among few notable shares touched three-month low on BSE during the current week. |

Shares Jaypee Group companies such as Jaiprakash Associates, Jaiprakash Power Ventures Ltd (JPVL) and Jaypee Infratech have plunged by up to 24% after Reliance Power called off a deal with Jaiprakash Power Ventures Ltd (JPVL) to buy the JVPL’s entire hydel power portfolio. “Due to prevailing regulatory uncertainties and tariff issues, which impact valuations, Reliance Power and JPVL have terminated discussions regarding Reliance Power’s acquisition of JPVL’s hydro portfolio of three projects, with an aggregate capacity of 1,791 mega watts, Reliance Power said in a statement. |

Sustained dollar demand from importers and weakness in local equities on Wednesday pulled the rupee down for a third straight day, with the currency ending two paise lower at 60.97 against the greenback. Heavy selling by foreign funds yesterday in local stocks and better dollar overseas also kept the rupee under pressure. |
