Sensex reclaims 28,000; HDFC, Axis Bank up 1%

Markets continued to trade higher, amid firm global cues, led by financials while IT major TCS and index heavyweight Reliance Industries also witnessed renewed buying interest at lower levels in early trades.

At 9:35AM, the 30-share Sensex was up 119 points at 28,009 and the 50-share Nifty was up 48 points at 8,477.


Nifty holds 8,400 amid choppy trade; Wipro down 1%

Markets turned choppy weighed down by pharma shares with Sun Pharma leading the decline while gains in ITC and financials helped offset some of the losses.

At 10:45AM, the 30-share Sensex was down 100 points at 27,786 and the 50-share Nifty was down 33 points at 8,444.

Fresh fears over the impact of retrospective taxation rattled foreign investors and Indian markets on Monday, traders said, as stocks fell for a fourth consecutive day and the rupee hit its weakest in more than a month.

The benchmark BSE index Sensex fell as much as 2.25 percent, its biggest fall since March 26. The index provisionally ended down 1.95 percent, while the NSE Nifty index fell 1.83 percent – Sensex 555.89 pts down at 27,886.21; Nifty 157.90 pts down at 8,448.10.

NSE Nifty fell for a third consecutive session on Friday, heading towards its lowest close in two weeks as IT exporters declined on concerns over fourth-quarter earnings after bellwether Tata Consultancy Services’ results failed to cheer investors.

Money managers worry slowdown seen by India’s largest software services exporter could be an indicator of an industry-wide trend and marks a weak start to the January-March earnings season.


Sensex, Nifty trim losses; Broader markets outshine

Benchmark indices are trading marginally weak after trimming losses on gains in select index heavyweight and bank stocks as the continuing deflation in wholesale prices have raised hopes of a rate cut by Reserve Bank of India.

At 2:07PM, the 30-share Sensex and the 50-share Nifty were flat at the mark of 29,043 and 8,828 respectively.


BSE Sensex, NSE Nifty up 2.0 pct on Moody’s positive credit outlook

The benchmark BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty rallied for the second week in a row by over 2.0 percent buoyed by across-the-board buying, Moody’s raising country’s credit outlook and speculations that the US Fed may keep interest rates low after weak jobs data.

However, Reserve Bank of India, in its monetary policy on April 7, left the short-term lending rate or repo rate unchanged and also kept the cash reserve ratio and the statutory liquidity ratio static, which weighed on the markets as Sensex closed almost flat on Tuesday.


NSE midcap index hits record high

Shares of midcap companies are continue at their upward march for the seven straight trading sessions with the National Stock Exchange (NSE) CNX Mid-cap index hit a fresh record high today.

At 1427 hours, CNX Mid-cap index was up 0.60% at 13,608 points, after hitting a new high of 13,631 in intra-day trade. The CNX Nifty was down 0.20% at 8,761.


Rating agency shares in demand; CRISIL, ICRA, CARE hit record high

Shares of rating agencies – ICRA, CRISIL and Credit Analysis and Research (CARE) – rallied by up to 12% after foreign institutional investors (FIIs) hiked their stake during the fourth quarter (January-March 2015).

ICRA has rallied 12% to Rs 4,993, CRISIL surged 7.5% to Rs 2,340 and CARE gained 3% to Rs 1,786 on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE). All these shares hit their respective record highs on the bourses.


Sensex at 3-week high; RIL, CIL surge

MUMBAI: Extending the winning run to fourth consecutive session on Thursday, the benchmark BSE Sensex rose by over 190 points to close at a three-week high of 28,707.75 mainly led by gains in RIL, Infosys and Coal India amid sustained foreign capital inflows.

The barometer has garnered 750.26 points in four-day gaining spree.


BSE Sensex slips over 160 pts into negative terrain as RBI holds key rates

The benchmark BSE Sensex pared its early gains to fell by 160 points as interest rate-sensitive stocks slipped after the Reserve Bank Governor Raghuram Rajan kept key repo rates unchanged in its first bi-monthly monetary policy.

The 30-share index, which gained 105.71 points in early trade, fell by 163.50 points, or 0.57 per cent, to 28340.96. The barometer had gained 546.97 points in the previous two straight sessions.
