The Ford Fiesta was always a good car in dynamic terms. And, this hasn't changed in the facelift. It still has superb straight line stability, and good cornering and braking mannerisms. The diesel engine, however, could do with more grunt to realise the car's potential.
The 2014 Ford Fiesta gets a new, more contemporary face and it retains its sporty stance too. It is easily one of the better looking sedans in its class; a class that has the likes of the Hyundai Verna and the new Honda City.
It is more pronounced now, and has been moved up to add to a more premium feel. As is the case with luxury cars, presence is defined by how imposing the grille is. And, that's the idea behind this update for the Fiesta as well.
This is a facelift. And in typical facelift tradition, the 2014 Ford Fiesta gets a new grille, sleeker headlamps and a racier looking front bumper with new fog lamp housing. Together, these give the car a bold face.
Revisions to the 2014 Ford Fiesta's rear end aren't as dramatic as the front. It gets a new bumper and the boot lid has been redesigned too. The latter gets an aero lip as well to reduce drag. The chrome strip on the bumper is a smart addition too.
The headlamps on the new Fiesta are sleeker now. But, making them sleeker means the throw and spread of the light could be compromised. To compensate, the insides of the headlamps have been redone to meet the older lamps effectiveness.
The Fog lamp housing has been revised which is part of the bumper redesign. The housing is wider now which helps to add visual width to the car. These look smarter than the ones on the older car as well.
The alloy wheel design is now a twin-arm, five spoke one. It's not a pretty design, but given our poor roads the outer rim had to be of significant thickness. Which, according to Ford, is the reason the rims don't look as sporty as they should.
The rear bumper, as expected of a facelift, is new. But, the most crucial element of the new bumper is the addition of the horizontal chrome strip towards the bottom of the bumper. According to Ford, this adds to car's width and hunkered down stance.
The design of the centre console hasn't changed. So, it is as busy as ever. But, it is now finished in gloss black instead of matte silver which has upped its plushness. The two tone finish for the dash is new too, and is a noteworthy change.
The steering wheel is the same as before. But, is now leather wrapped and has a glossy outline around the centre boss. This too, like the gloss black finish, has helped the Fiesta's interior's upmarket aura. Buttons on the steering though, continue unchanged.
On the Fiesta, the addition of AppLink means, one can access pre-loaded apps like Explore from MapMyIndia to find places of interest. There will be many more apps coming soon.
Front seats, even on the previous car, were one of the best in class with adequate cushioning, support and bolstering. It is the same with the new Fiesta. But, now that these are finished in a lighter shade, these make the cabin appear airier than before.
The design for the interior of the 2014 Ford Fiesta hasn't changed. But, it now gets a two-tone dashboard and better materials. The quality of plastic has improved, especially for the dash top and there's gloss black plastic now in place of boring matte silver.
Outside rear view mirrors on the 2014 Ford Fiesta come with electric adjust on all three versions. But, the electric fold function is reserved for the top of the line Titanium trim. The ORVMs also get a puddle lamp; handy on those rainy nights.
Safety kit includes ABS, Electronic Stability Program and dual front airbags and side curtain airbags.
