TRAI to ask Bharti Airtel to furnish details of segmented offers in ‘stipulated format’

Regulator TRAI plans to ask telecom operator Bharti Airtel to cough up additional details on segmented or concessional offerings it made to customers and will insist that information furnished adheres to its ’prescribed format’, a source said. The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) had last month asked operators to submit information on concessional offers dished out between April 2018 and March 2019, and while Bharti Airtel has shared some details, Vodafone Idea sought two more weeks to submit the same. |

Telecom regulator TRAI has directed Dish TV India to comply with the provisions of the new framework for broadcasting and cable TV services, acting on consumer complaints pertaining to the operators' specific offering and grievance redressal helpline. TRAI, which has promised strict action against those cable TV and direct-to-home (DTH) players who are found violating its new tariff order and regulatory regime, had earlier this week also pulled up Bharti Telemedia on similar grounds. |

Bharti Airtel, Vodafone Idea see rise in fixed-line subscribers in February

Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea witnessed a rise in fixed-line subscribers at a time when the overall wireline users in the country continued to decline in February, according to data published by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai). “Wireline subscribers further declined from 21.79 million at the end of January to 21.72 million at the end of February,” the report said. Net decline in the wireline subscriber base was 0.07 million with a monthly decline rate of 0.36 per cent. |

Trai to hold consultation with BSNL, MTNL on 4G spectrum allocation: Govt

Telecom regulator Trai will hold a consultation on spectrum allocation with state-owned firms BSNL and MTNL soon, a top official said Tuesday. "We have received a reference from the DoT couple of days back on the allocation of spectrum for 4G services to BSNL and MTNL. We will issue a consultation paper and hold open house discussion on it," Trai Chairman R S Sharma told reporters on sidelines of an ICEA event. |

Broadcast regulator TRAI has written to DTH operator Independent TV (formerly known as Big TV) asking it to justify its current tariff plans in the backdrop of the sector’s new regulatory framework. In a letter to Independent TV, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has also called a meeting with the senior official of the DTH company on the said matter, Tuesday. |

Operators can’t charge TV viewers more than current monthly outgo under: TRAI

Telecom regulator TRAI on Wednesday asserted that operators cannot charge TV viewers more than their usual monthly outgo under the ‘best fit plan’ to be offered during the transition period, and cautioned that the regulator will take action on any such complaint. “TRAI has clearly asked distribution platform owners (DPOs) to ensure that for consumers, the monthly outgo under the best fit plan should not exceed the payout per month of existing plan of the subscriber,” TRAI Secretary SK Gupta told PTI. |
