Markets come off record highs; ITC surges 4%

Markets surged in opening trades to hit record highs with the Sensex topping the 28,800 mark but retreated later as traders turned cautious and booked profits at higher levels.

By 9:30, the Sensex was higher by 175 points at 28,618 whereas the Nifty gained by 88 points at 8,625. Sensex and Nifty have hit the fresh record high of 28,809 and 8,627, respectively.


Infosys turns ex-bonus today

Infosys is trading lower by 1.5% at Rs 2,143 in early morning deals on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) after turning ex-bonus today.

The stock opened at Rs 2,165 and hit a low of Rs 2,139 on NSE. A combined 188,234 shares have changed hands on the counter till 0916 hours on BSE and NSE.


Maruti Suzuki hits lifetime high post November sales

Maruti Suzuki India has moved higher by 2.2% to Rs 3,410 on BSE after reporting 19.5% year on year increase in its total sales to 110,147 units in the month of November 2014. The car maker had sold 92,140 units during the same month last year.

Domestic sales during the month stood at 100,024 units, up 17% from 85,510 units in November previous year, Maruti Suzuki India said in a statement.


Markets open marginally higher; Nifty reclaims 8,600

Markets have opened marginally higher with IT and select bank shares leading the gains in early trades. Some volatility is expected later in the session ahead of the RBI policy meet tomorrow.

At 9:35AM, the 30-share Sensex was up 64 points at 28,758 and the 50-share Nifty was up 20 points at 8,609.


BSE market-cap at Rs 100 trillion; investor wealth up 10 times in decade

Scaling a new peak, the total investor wealth in Indian stock market today hit a record high of Rs 100 trillion, marking a jump of ten times in little over a decade.

Measured in terms of total market capitalisation of all listed companies on the country’s biggest bourse BSE, the overall investor wealth in the Indian stock market rose to Rs 100.01 lakh crore in early morning trade at 1005 hours as benchmark Sensex soared by over 300 points in its continuing record rally.


Every second stock has doubled in past 15 months

According to an analysis by Business Standard, about half (428) the 836 stocks in the BSE 500, BSE small-cap and BSE mid-cap indices have doubled in the past 15 months. During this period, the benchmark indices — the BSE Sensex and the National Stock Exchange Nifty — have gained about 60 per cent.

Experts said investor sentiment and valuations had hit rock-bottom last year due to weak domestic macro fundamentals. A subsequent improvement in investor sentiment and return of risk appetite had aided the market across the board.


ICICI Bank joins Rs 2 lakh crore m-cap club

Banking stocks continue to rally on the bourses, with the market value of the ICICI Bank, crossing the Rs two lakh crore mark. The private sector lender has become the third bank and ninth company in current list of companies having m-cap of over Rs 200,000 crore.

ICICI Bank scrip up 1.9% to Rs 1,766 on BSE, taking its market value to Rs 2,04,395 crore at 1121 hours, the BSE data shows. The bank is at the ninth positions in overall market capitalization (m-cap) ranking.


Infosys gains on fixing record date for bonus issue, interim dividend

Shares of Infosys is trading higher by nearly 2% at Rs 4,213 in early trade on BSE after the company said it has fixed record date as December 3, 2014 for the purpose of allotment of bonus shares/stock dividend.

On October 10, 2014 the board of directors of Infosys had recommended a bonus issue of one equity share for every equity share held.


ICICI Bank fixes record date for stock split; stock hits new high

Shares of ICICI Bank has higher by 3% to Rs 1,732 on National Stock Exchange (NSE) after the bank has fixed December 5 as the record date for its proposed stock split.

The bank has fixed record date as December 05, 2014 for the purpose of ascertaining the eligible shareholders who would be entitled to receive 5 equity shares of nominal value of Rs 2 each in lieu of 1 equity share of nominal value of Rs 10 each of the bank, ICICI Bank said in a statement.


SBI reclaims most-valued bank status

State Bank of India (SBI) today reclaimed its position as the country's most valued bank with a total market valuation of over Rs 2.25 lakh crore, surpassing private sector player HDFC Bank.

At 1008 hours, shares of SBI gained 2.2% to Rs 304 on BSE, taking its market value to Rs 226,734 crore, making it the overall sixth most valued company.
