| The Marine Mammal Center |  | The Marine Mammal Center thinks we ought to help otters and work for whales. The not-for-profit group works from five locations to protect marine mammals and their environment along the northern California coast. The Marine Mammal Center programs include rescuing and treating about 1,000 injured, ill, or orphaned marine mammals annually and returning all healthy animals to their habitat. The Marine Mammal Center also works with scientists in Europe and South America in conducting research to better understand marine mammals and their environment. The Marine Mammal Center's educational programs reach more than 100,000 people each year and it publishes Release, a member newsletter. About 90% of funds go to programs.
