Formerly an oil and gas explorer and producer in Alberta and Saskatchewan, in 2009 PetroBakken Energy Ltd. (as TriStar Oil and gas) combined with the Canadian business unit of Petrobank Energy and Resources to form PetroBakken Energy, solely focused on the Bakken Shale play. PetroBakken Energy has estimated proved plus probable reserves of 127 million barrels of oil equivalent, and produces about 37,000 barrels per day. Petrobank Energy controls about two-thirds of the company.
